135th Day As An iOS Developer - Fully Functional Search Function Plus Dynamic Cell Size

March 21, 2016 - 135th Day As An iOS Developer

MONDAY - Ah Monday, watch out! Long weekend is coming! This coming Thursday and Friday, our country is having its annual holidays called - Holy Week.

One important thing that I've learned today is how to dynamically adjust your TableView Cell or your CollectionViewCell based on its contents. I got the idea, sometimes it works and sometimes not, therefore it's not perfect yet. My part time senior iOS Dev informed me that our CTO has the right codes for it. I'm excited to check it out next week.

I just did some modifications, and enhancements (yep, again) to my project. This project, in fact, like what I've told you in my last post yesterday, is already done. I just feel like to do bug fixing and enhancements. You know what's the happiest moment of mine in developing this project? It happened today, it was when I successfully implemented (fully functional) a search function with relation to Core Data. Thank you sir P for helping me throughout this project.

By the way, another tip: I realised today that if you can't present an Alert Controller, and Xcode is giving you a warning and you find it weird because you are so certain that you're doing it right, you just have to do this: Dispatch it on the main thread!

131st Day As An iOS Developer - Collection View Experience

March 15, 2016 - 131st Day As An iOS Developer

TUESDAY - I like what I learned last day: UICollectionView. I wasn't able to put this on my yesterday's blog post. So when I submitted my scrum via Google Form today, I put this: "First time use of collection views in iOS." in my roadblocks. Remember the 'new protocol' I mentioned on my yesterday's post?...

Let's now go straight ahead to my experience yesterday or rather today. But let me first discuss about my CollectionView experience. I was having a hard time laying out the collection view, so I thought that I'd use XIB instead of making it programmatically, and I was not mistaken. XIB is old, according to my part time senior, and the new one is storyboard, but some people still prefer XIBs over that. I had a UIViewController, and I just put a CollectionView there, inside a View of course, because I only want the 70% of the screen height to be the UICollectionView. The design should be two columns, and I never thought I could finish that in one day. I know myself as a slow coder, I don't know why. Probably because I'm still learning the foundations of iOS App Development even though it is my 6th month already.

Next paragraph, so I googled how to center two columns of cells for UICollectionView. To make the long post short, there is a magical side menu in your Xcode that does that kind of job. I set up my collection view using the Size Inspector.

As you can see in the picture, you can set up your cell structure using the size insector, just add constraints to your UICollectionView to make things more perfect. Of course, I also did my custom cell for that collection view. I'll make a very short tutorial in my next post.

HOW TO BLUR YOUR BACKGROUND IN IOS?

So there you go, my readers. FIN.

25th Day As An iOS Developer With No Experience

October 8, 2015 - 25th Day As An iOS Developer With No Experience.

THURSDAY - My time was wasted. I discovered some easy way to adjust the spacing between cell items in UICollectionView. I think I have spend almost 4 hours in configuring the collectionView layout of my 1st project. What a waste.

- (CGFloat) collectionView:(UICollectionView *)collectionView layout:(UICollectionViewLayout *)collectionViewLayout minimumLineSpacingForSectionAtIndex:(NSInteger)section

{

    return 4;

}

- (CGFloat) collectionView:(UICollectionView *)collectionView layout:(UICollectionViewLayout *)collectionViewLayout minimumInteritemSpacingForSectionAtIndex:(NSInteger)section

{

    return 1;

}

As I was typing this post, I was cleaning up the laptop (my used to be laptop) of my cousin. Installing AVG is soooo, I mean takes so much time. I think this would be all for now. Subscribe! *smiley*
